About OpenDBC
An open-source home for DarkBASIC programs, old and new.
Open source
OpenDBC is released under the MIT licence. Find the source code and report issues on GitHub. Contributions are welcome: architecture.md describes the code layout, the language pipeline, the compatibility rules and the tests.
Not affiliated
OpenDBC is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by The Game Creators Ltd or Dark Basic Software Limited. DarkBASIC and DarkBASIC Professional are trademarks of their respective holders; they are named only to describe the languages OpenDBC is compatible with.
OpenDBC is also unrelated to the opendbc project of comma.ai, which deals with car CAN
bus databases.
What is, and is not, in the repository
- OpenDBC does not redistribute the DarkBASIC Classic help, tutorials, demos or their media.
- The DarkBASIC Professional help examples under
examples/dbpro/come from the MIT-licensed Dark-Basic-Pro repository and keep its notice. - Every other media file under
examples/, the textures, models, sounds and music used by the tutorials and demos, is made by the project and released under CC0. Use them freely in your games.
Third-party libraries (SDL3, Assimp, Jolt Physics, ENet, TinySoundFont, Dear ImGui, OpenXR and others), fonts and the General MIDI sound bank are listed in NOTICE.md, with the licence of each embedded file.

Plain HTML and CSS: no framework, no tracker, no cookie. The command reference is generated from the same catalogue the compiler uses. Tutorial source is available to download, and screenshots are captured from the programs running in OpenDBC.
